Docklands Community Centre has been a fixture of St Pauls life for generations. Almost everyone in the community has a story connected to this building — but until now, those stories had never been gathered in one place.
Our young people decided to change that.
Over several months, the FCD delivery team and our young people set out to uncover the history of the centre — digging into its past and sitting down with St Pauls and Bristol locals to record their memories and experiences of Docklands across the decades. What they created is the History of Docklands Documentary (Part 1), which you can watch below.
Every part of this project was shaped by young people. The research and interviews were carried out by FCD youths alongside J. Pitter, and the documentary was directed, filmed and edited by our young people with the support of KCVisualz. Narration was recorded by ACE (Aspiration Creation Elevation).
For us, this project is about more than history. It’s about young people recognising the value of the place they come from, learning the skills to tell its story properly, and putting something on record for the generations who come after them.
Heartfelt thanks to everyone who shared their memories and made the documentary possible, and to The National Lottery Heritage Fund, whose funding and support made the project happen.
This is only Part 1 — the story of Docklands is far from finished. If you’d like to take part in Part 2, or you have memories of the centre you’d like to share, get in touch.
We’d love to hear from you.
