Community Organisations Full Circle & Aspiration Creation Elevation (ACE) CIC secure management of Docklands Youth Club / St Pauls Settlement.

St Pauls Community Organisations Full Circle and ACE CIC are delighted to announce their success in securing a 15 year lease from Bristol City Council as the new managers of Docklands Youth Centre / St Paul’s Settlement .

Following Bristol City Council’s announcement in 2013 to offer a management lease for the Docklands Youth Club as part of a Community Asset Transfer process, a consultation to assess the needs and wishes of children and young people locally was led by Full Circle and ACE. Young people and local resident users of the building and its services expressed an overwhelmingly majority interest for Full Circle and ACE to secure management and continue delivery of existing services and youth activities.

Full Circle charity have been running family support and activities in St Pauls since 1980 and together with ACE formed in 2013 by Darren Lynch-Burton, Hans Soghe and Cherelle Grant have been successfully running existing youth activities and community groups at Docklands for the past year. Currently over 100 local young people per week visit the Docklands Youth site to attend music production, sports activities, employability sessions, homework clubs, summer clubs and mentoring sessions. The centre is also home to women’s groups offering basketball and community support.

Docklands Settlement was set up in Bristol in 1924 by Sir Reginald Kennedy Cox. The first centres were set up in London, to serve the youth of the dockers in slum areas offering refuge, cultural activities and sports. Throughout the later years Docklands Youth Club/St Pauls Settlement continued to offer arts and music activities producing and influencing many Bristol’s music talents.

Situated in Brigstocke Road St Pauls, the centre is situated in one of the most overall deprived neighbourhoods of Bristol and is the only one of its kind in the area. With this in mind our shared vision is to build on our work with young people and to develop new creative arts & media, sports, educational and training programmes.

Full Circle and ACE CIC trustees and Directors would like to thank all the individuals and organisations that have supported this process especially the young people who attend the youth projects, our staff and volunteers, Patsy Newton & The Ethical Property Foundation, Elaine Flint & Social Enterprise Works, Caroline Oldland, Knightstone Housing, Rethink, Ujima Radio, St Paul’s Unlimited, Cllrs Gus Hoyt & Rob Telford, Bristol City Council, Unite the Union, Voscur and most importantly the community of St Pauls, Bristol.

Avea, Angel, Kemi & Sheraye use their entrepreneurial skills to raise funds for charity

Girls' club full circle bristol inspiration youth services deki money finance charity deki challenge entrepreneurs

Saturday 17th of May 2014, the girls decided to use their baking and entrepreneurial skills to raise funds for charity as well as helping Full Circle’s very own Girls’ Club so we can expand our range of activities.

Enter Deki, a Bristol-based charity that specialises in microfinance which is an innovative way of transforming communities by lending small amounts to entrepreneurs.

The sun was shining and there were plenty of people partying that day.
Their lemon drizzle cupcakes proved so popular that Shayma and Kemi had to run home to bake more. Avea, Sheraye and Angel did a brilliant job, manning the bric-a-brac stall and tempting passers-by with their delicious blue chocolate cake. Shayma is a fantastic saleswoman and fundraiser. She was fearless in her approach to encourage people to donate to our causes.

Their hard work paid off. In total, over £70 was raised .
Three quarters of that has already been lent to Christine Robinson, a mother of six from South Sudan, who will use it to expand her small grocery business. This will ensure that she can pay her children’s school fees in the world’s newest country, but one of the least developed.
When Christine repays her loan, the money will be re-used to help more people in similar situations.

The rest of the money will go towards the Girls’ Club fund to explore our city. They are starting by visiting the Clifton Caves in a couple of weeks.

The event was supervised by Susannah Harlow, the Girls’ Club coordinator.

We are very proud of our girls’ efforts towards good causes and their budding entrepreneurial spirit. Congrats again and well done!

Maybe you are thinking of donating towards one or many of our projects to help our youth achieve even more?
