Avea, Angel, Kemi & Sheraye use their entrepreneurial skills to raise funds for charity

Saturday 17th of May 2014, the girls decided to use their baking and entrepreneurial skills to raise funds for charity as well as helping Full Circle’s very own Girls’ Club so we can expand our range of activities.

Enter Deki, a Bristol-based charity that specialises in microfinance which is an innovative way of transforming communities by lending small amounts to entrepreneurs.

The sun was shining and there were plenty of people partying that day.
Their lemon drizzle cupcakes proved so popular that Shayma and Kemi had to run home to bake more. Avea, Sheraye and Angel did a brilliant job, manning the bric-a-brac stall and tempting passers-by with their delicious blue chocolate cake. Shayma is a fantastic saleswoman and fundraiser. She was fearless in her approach to encourage people to donate to our causes.

Their hard work paid off. In total, over £70 was raised .
Three quarters of that has already been lent to Christine Robinson, a mother of six from South Sudan, who will use it to expand her small grocery business. This will ensure that she can pay her children’s school fees in the world’s newest country, but one of the least developed.
When Christine repays her loan, the money will be re-used to help more people in similar situations.

The rest of the money will go towards the Girls’ Club fund to explore our city. They are starting by visiting the Clifton Caves in a couple of weeks.

The event was supervised by Susannah Harlow, the Girls’ Club coordinator.

We are very proud of our girls’ efforts towards good causes and their budding entrepreneurial spirit. Congrats again and well done!

Maybe you are thinking of donating towards one or many of our projects to help our youth achieve even more?

I repeat : We are the Easton Community Tournament Champions!!

Last Saturday 24th of May 2014, the Easton Community Tournament took place with much enthusiasm at The City Academy on Russell Town Avenue.

The Easton Community Cup is an annual event, now in its 3rd year and this year’s event was the biggest yet, with 16 different teams taking part and over 100 young people involved.

Young football enthusiasts from across Redfield, Easton and St Pauls took part and after 4 competitive rounds, Docklands eventually won the final beating Lebeqs FC 4-2.

Despite the horrible weather, the football competition went really well and lasted the whole afternoon from 12pm until about 5pm.

Full Circle helped train beforehand 3 teams and managed them to enter into the competition.

See more pictures of last Saturday here.

Congratulations and well done again to everyone involved and the dedication you put in!

Got questions about any of the above?

Perhaps you are thinking of donating towards one or many of our projects? Or maybe sponsoring something that involves us?

Betterdays Saturday Play Club & the Young Women’s Project to close

Unfortunately as a result of a funding cut two of our popular projects will be ending. This has not been an easy to decision to make at a time when many young people and families are facing cuts to services, however due to changes in the way Bristol City Council funds youth services we are no longer in a position to continue these projects. The table tennis and football sessions provided by Full Circle at St Pauls Academy are unaffected.

Youth services in this area previously funded by Bristol City Council have now been commissioned out to Learning Partnership West. ffi contact Learning Partnership West here:

Full Circle will continue to work with the Malcolm X Centre in providing young people’s play and activities at the Jamafrique night, Thursdays 6.30 – 9.30pm. We will be announcing details of an exciting new project we are planning for this years St Pauls Carnival…watch this space!

In the meantime we would like to thank Dee, Rhia, Lucie, Isoke and Angela for working with us over the years and good luck in the future.
