Sounds of Pisces Summer Fundraiser

Full Circle Docklands fundraising success

We are very grateful to Delroy Hibbert (pictured on the left) for raising over £300 last Friday for Full Circle @Docklands at the “Sounds of Pisces Summer Fundraiser”

A big THANK YOU as well to Cosies! in Portland Square for allowing us to use their venue for the second time for fundraising purposes.

Special thanks to everyone who helped spread the word about the event before and/or took part in it.

The money raised will go towards helping more young people within the area achieve their aspirations and contribute to the work we have been doing since 1980 .

Speakerbox – A collaborative film project

Join us at Arnolfini to celebrate the premiere of Speakerbox, a collaborative film project between artists Rob Mitchell, Shawn Sobers and young people from Full Circle @Docklands aged 8-13 in response to John Akomfrah’s Vertigo Sea.

The event will take place between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday April 10th 2016.

Shawn Sobers is a filmmaker, photographer, writer and lecturer.

Rob Mitchell has worked as a creative media producer of film, video and various media.

In 1999, Shawn and Rob worked together to form Firstborn Creatives, an independent production company for broadcast television, which has since established a strong reputation for using creative media to educate, entertain and give people a platform for creative expression.

When? Sunday 10th of April 2016

Where do we meet? There will also be a gathering outside Docklands Youth Centre at 2.30pm. We will walk together to Arnolfini where the film is shown and where there will be a celebration at 3.30pm, finishing at 4pm.

@Docklands chosen to announce Bristol as European City of Sport 2017

Bristol was announced last Thursday by Mayor George Ferguson as the European City of Sport for 2017.

The event took place at Docklands Youth Centre

The mayor also announced he would dedicate £5,000 from his discretionary fund to contribute towards black and minority ethnic sport groups in the city.

Besides Docklands Youth Centre, the beneficiaries will include St Judes Women’s Group, Bristol West Indies Phoenix Cricket Club and the Bristol Brothers football team.

An important theme for the year will be women and girls in sport and aims to build on the Bristol Girl campaign and various other projects encouraging more people across the city to take part in active recreation.

The European City of Sport title is awarded by ACES Europe. Bristol is one of several European cities to be awarded the title.

“As a city we already do much to encourage people to be more active and healthy. this year of sport give us an opportunity to build on all the good things we have already achieved.”

“A population that engages in sport and is more active in everyday life will help transform our city mentally, socially and physically.”

Free Carnival Workshop Throughout August & September

All local children, young people and families are invited to take part in a free Carnival workshop throughout August & September at Docklands.
There will be opportunities to learn about the Carnival culture, get practical with making the costumes and much more.

The Seven Saints of St. Pauls Heritage Mural Initiative

In honour of the Bristol West Indian Parents and Friends Association

The St Pauls Carnival is one of the longuest established Caribbean style Carnivals in the United Kingdom and 2018 will mark its 50th Anniversary.
In June 2015, Iconic Black Bristolians in partnership with 121 Creatives will be launching the first of our Summer Artival Exhibitions and will introduce The Seven Saints of St. Pauls, who are the seven founders of the St. Pauls Festival.

The free exhibition, running from the 29th of June to the 4th of July, will include illustrated portraits with accompanying biographies and will be the launch of The Seven Saints of St Pauls Heritage Mural Initiative.

The Seven Saints of St. Pauls Heritage Mural Initiative is a two-year project, which will see the erection of seven murals painted in the St. Pauls area of Bristol to celebrate the achievements of some of our key members of the African Caribbean diaspora in Bristol; The seven saints of St. Pauls.

Starting on the 22nd of April and until the 23rd April, LearnDirect Bristol will be running personal confidence workshops taking place over 2 days and starting at 1.30pm till 4.30pm.

Eligibility:

-Individuals must be 19+
-Resident in the UK/EU for 3years or more
-In receipt of State benefits

MShed Moving Forward FREE course

Do you want the opportunity to take part in a volunteer placement at M Shed or Brunel’s SS Great Britain?

This is a FREE course aimed at unemployed people who are local Bristol Residents. “M Shed – Moving Forward” is an exciting volunteer placement and training programme developed and delivered by M Shed and South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, working in partnership with employment support agencies. The programme is supported by Bristol City Council’s Economy, Enterprise and Inclusion team.

They are looking to recruit local individuals and provide them with the necessary skills and work experience to take the next step towards gaining employment.

Individuals who join the programme will follow a tailor made course and have the opportunity to achieve nationally accredited qualifications in employability and customer service. Participants will gain real work experience and take part in volunteer placements in Bristol museums.
