Focus on Table Tennis Club

Lateef Salawu began playing table tennis as a boy in Nigeria for fun but soon after arriving in the UK he took up the sport competitively. After this ended, Lateef trained as a table tennis coach as he wanted to give something back to the sport. It was at this point also that he established the Full Circle Table Tennis Club to develop interest in the sport he loved amongst children and young people in St Pauls.

In its 14th year the club continues to be a beacon of success under Lateef’s direction. We currently have around 25 children aged from 7 years upwards. The club currently meets for sessions at the St Pauls Sports Academy on Newfoundland Road every Saturday between 12pm – 1.30pm and play competitive matches in the Bristol league. Occasional further training is given at the WISE centre at Filton College by specialist coaches and this is clearly paying off as the club now boasts one player, Mariam at County level and another, Lateefa breaking into that team. Incidentally, last May saw Mariam winning the over 14s Bristol District Table Tennis Championship and Lateefa achieving 3rd in the under 14s category.

The club are now seeking sponsorship for the team to help with development and equipment costs as well as the attending and participation in matches and tournaments. If you can help or would like further details please contact Full Circle 0117 9077164 or delroy@fullcircleproject.org.uk
